Swedish Engineering. Individually Built. Uncompromising Performance.
The Permobil M5  is one of the world’s most advanced mid-wheel drive power wheelchairs, individually built in Sweden to meet your exact clinical, functional, and lifestyle requirements. This is not an off-the-shelf wheelchair—it is a bespoke mobility solution designed around you, delivering exceptional comfort, independence, and performance.

The M5 combines powerful motors, advanced suspension, and the renowned Corpus Seating System to provide an incredibly smooth ride both indoors and outdoors. Independent FlexLink™ Pro suspension keeps all six wheels in contact with the ground for improved comfort, stability, and traction, while features such as Active Height and Active Reach allow you to interact more naturally with your environment by driving while elevated and reaching objects more easily.

Every Permobil M5 is professionally assessed and configured to suit the individual user. From specialised seating, pressure management, and power positioning functions to customised driving controls, legrests, lighting, electronics, and environmental controls, thousands of configuration combinations are available to ensure the wheelchair fits you—not the other way around.

As South Africa’s authorised Permobil distributor, CE Mobility provides expert clinical assessments, professional setup, genuine Permobil spare parts, and factory-trained technicians to support your wheelchair throughout its lifetime.

Please note: The advertised price is the entry-level starting price. Because every Permobil M5 is individually specified, optional seating, electronics, drive controls, and power functions will affect the final price.

FAQs

  1. Why should I choose a mid-wheel drive wheelchair?
Mid-wheel drive wheelchairs offer the smallest turning circle of any power wheelchair, making them exceptionally easy to manoeuvre in homes, offices, shopping centres, and other confined spaces. With the drive wheels positioned directly beneath you, steering feels more natural and precise, making everyday driving easier and more intuitive.
  2. Is a mid-wheel drive wheelchair suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. The Permobil M5 combines mid-wheel drive with FlexLink™ Pro independent suspension, allowing all six wheels to maintain contact with the ground. This provides excellent traction, comfort, and stability on uneven pavements, brick paving, and outdoor pathways while still delivering superb indoor manoeuvrability.
  3. Why is the Permobil M5 more expensive than many other power wheelchairs?
The M5 is individually manufactured in Sweden and configured specifically for each user. It is not a standard production wheelchair. Every chair is clinically prescribed and can be customised with seating, electronics, drive controls, pressure management, and power positioning functions to meet your exact needs.
  4. Why does the advertised price differ from my quotation?
The displayed price is the entry-level starting price. Every Permobil M5 is built to order, and the final price depends on the seating system, cushions, backrest, legrests, power functions, control system, and other options selected during your clinical assessment.
  5. Will my medical aid pay for a Permobil M5?
Many South African medical aids contribute towards power wheelchairs when there is a clinical need. The amount approved varies depending on your medical aid plan and available benefits. Our clinical team can assist with assessments and the documentation required for your application.
  6. Does CE Mobility provide servicing and spare parts?
Yes. CE Mobility is the authorised Permobil distributor in South Africa. We stock genuine Permobil spare parts and have factory-trained technicians and therapists who can provide servicing, repairs, clinical support, and ongoing after-sales care.
  7. Can I customise the wheelchair in the future?
Yes. One of the biggest advantages of the Permobil M5 is its flexibility. Many seating components, electronics, controls, and positioning functions can be adjusted or upgraded as your clinical or lifestyle needs change.
